MANVILLE: ‘Safe Routes’ program honored

Ridewise TMA recognizes Roosevelt School

Manville’s Roosevelt Elementary School has been cited for its Safe Routes to School program by Ridewise TMA.
Schools and municipalities applied for gold, silver, bronze, and first step recognition levels based on their involvement.
Roosevelt Elementary School won a silver award.
First Step-level participants enrolled in the program and identified a point person from the municipality or school. Bronze awards were given to those who have implemented events, such as walking school buses and bicycle clinics. Silver and gold participants completed activities, such as creating school travel plans, implementing surveys, incorporating pedestrian and bicycle education into the schools’ curriculum, and adopting supportive school policies for walking and bicycling to school.
Somerset County received 12 percent of all statewide recognition awards and won 24 percent of all silver awards bestowed this school year.
