On Friday, June 7, 2013, the school community of St. Augustine of Canterberry gathered for a ground breaking re-enactment ceremony to celebrate its golden anniversary.
In 1962, Bishop George W. Ahr of Trenton and Father John J. Reilly had a vision for a Catholic elementary school.
Fifty years later, the vision has surpassed all expectations and St. Augustine of Canterbury School has soared to excellence in Catholic education.
Rev. Robert G. Lynam, KCHS, Pastor gathered the Student Council in the school foyer to begin the ceremony.
Through the technology of KTN, the school’s own television network, the student body viewed the broadcast LIVE with great anticipation from their classrooms.
Father Bob eloquently explained the history that enabled the cornerstone of the school’s formation.
Students, Rage Bzdewka and Conor Quigley, dressed authentically as Bishop Ahr and Father Reilly re-enacted the special blessing and ground breaking of St. Augustine School.
The morning continued with a school Mass for the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The school community continued the celebratory day with a special lunch and entertainment.
School pride was abundant throughout the building. Eighth grade students, who graduated just two days prior, returned to share in the tribute.
Alumni students were also present to support the event.
”This is why I miss this place,” Angelica Bakhos, Class of 2011, said.
Principal, Sister Mary Louise Shulas, MPF commended the student body of more than 500 students for conveying the values, achievements and spirit that inspired the creation of the present day award winning school.
