Knife taken from man once he finally opens door
Police coaxed an apparently troubled man to open the door to a home on Kaler Street on Saturday at about 4 p.m., and quickly restrained and disarmed him, township police said.
Officers responded after police received a call from a family member who expressed concern for the man’s well-being. Initially, the man refused to answer the door or come out. After telephone calls to the home were unsuccessful in persuading him to come out, the Somerset County Emergency Response team was requested for a possible barricaded suicidal person.
Before the county team arrived, more phone conversations persuaded him to open the door. Officers safely disarmed him of what they said was a large kitchen knife sticking out of his pocket and restrained him. He was taken to Somerset Medical Center for evacuation. No injuries were reported.
