Fund-raising effort is this Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Members of the Manville First Aid & Rescue Squad will get their hands wet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 23, in the parking lot of the squad building on South Third Avenue.
The event will raise money for much-needed equipment. Captain Robyn Barb said the squad hopes to raise $700 to $1,400.
The squad is funded by donations, activities and events held in town, with the help of its auxiliary and through an annual mailing that should be going out soon.
”With the cost of medical supplies increasing, the squad’s call volume increasing and the amount of donations decreasing, events like the car wash are a great way to make some money to fund various projects around the Rescue Squad,” Ms. Barb said.
She added, “We have updated a sleeping quarters to make the building a little bit more comfortable for the crews to stay at the building, which, in return, makes the response time in Manville for an ambulance about three minutes when the volunteers are on duty.”
This year, most of the proceeds will go to maintain ambulances, buy medical equipment for daily operations and pay daily living bills, Ms. Barb said.
The cost is $5 for cars and $7 for trucks or SUVs. The format will be like a drive-through with stations to wet down, wash, rinse and dry.
Donations of buckets, sponges, soap, drying towels would be appreciated and could be dropped off at the squad building Saturday. Monetary donations also will be accepted.
