HILLSBOROUGH: Tuesday’s forum aims to bring an awareness of suicide hints

Suicide is preventable and resources are available.
That’s the message the community group BoroSAFE (Suicide Awareness for Everyone) will bring in an awareness forum on Tuesday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to noon in the auditorium of Hillsborough High School on Raider Boulevard.
This forum looks to bring community members together and open up a dialogue about a difficult-to-discuss mental health issue.
Keynote speaker is Mark Farrell. Mark is a passionate speaker, radio host and on-camera personality. His life experiences stemming from his visual disability have driven him to address audiences on issues that have personally impacted his life. They include overcoming adversity, bullying prevention, mental health, drugs/alcohol, entitlement, and understanding and celebrating differences.
A panel discussion, moderated by author Eric Marcus, will be held following the keynote. Mr. Marcus is the author of “Why Suicide? Questions & Answers About Suicide, Suicide Prevention, and Coping with the Suicide of Someone You Know.” He serves on the national board of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
The panel discussion will focus on the topic of resiliency when faced with adversity. Panel participants will include current and former Hillsborough High School students, as well as local leaders in the field of suicide prevention.
Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. Walk-ins are welcome. Community members are asked to RSVP to [email protected] or 908-431-6600, ext. 2387.
BoroSAFE is a committee made up of educators, parents, community members, mental health professionals and local clergy.
