Republicans and Democrats slate events
— Hopewell Valley Republicans are holding their annual Chicken Barbecue and Pig Roast on July 10. Now in its 57th year, the event will be held from 5-8:30 p.m. at Pennington Firehouse on Broemel Place, Pennington. Take out dinners also will be available.
Fresh barbecued chicken, succulent pork slow-roasted for hours, summer salads, rolls, watermelon, birch beer and coffee are the evening’s fare. Guests are invited to BYOB.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children 5-12. There is no charge for children under 5. Families with young children, senior citizens, teens, and all others are invited to attend.
Advance reservations are requested. Make checks payable to HVRA and mail them to1297 Bear Tavern Road, Titusville, 08560. Tickets will be held at the door.

A long-time Hopewell Valley tradition, the barbecue is one of the most popular summer events in the community, according to Mike Chipowsky, president of the Hopewell Valley Republican Association, event sponsor.
Candidates running for local, county and state offices will be on hand to greet supporters. Invited candidates include Steve Lonegan, U.S. Senate; Donald Cox, NJ Senate; and Anthony Giordano and Kim Taylor, NJ General Assembly, 15th Legislative District.
Mercer County Freeholder candidates are Ron “Cef” Cefalone and Paul “PJ” Hummel. Invited local Republican candidates include former township Mayor John Hart and Todd Brant. There are no Republicans running for Pennington or Hopewell Borough councils.
Republicans have set their meeting schedule: Aug. 7, Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11. Meetings are held at the Hopewell Township branch of the Mercer County Library, 245 Pennington-Titusville Road. Meetings start at 7 p.m. and are open to the public. The meetings will be followed by Hopewell Township Republican County Committee meetings at 7:30 p.m.
