According to rising Rutgers senior, Saajan Doshi, “The Youth” is a short film about following one’s dreams.
He and his fellow South Brunswick alumni were inspired to make this short film after receiving a similar assignment their senior year in college, according to Mr. Doshi.
”We were asked to turn a novel into a short film. The book was Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. After that assignment, we wanted to do more,” Mr. Doshi said.
The group of friends got together and created a film, which Mr. Doshi describes as, “life changing.”
”It’s about growing up with dreams and aspirations and before one knows it, one’s caught up in the daily grind (and) forced to survive and loses track of those ambitions they had first aimed for,” Mr. Doshi said.
Accompanying Mr. Doshi in his efforts are Jean Issacs, journalism and digital film making major; Isaiah Mcneill, communications major; Andrew Buckner, history major, and Charles Ferrones, who is undecided in his studies.
After submitting it to the Campus Movie Fest, the largest student film festival in the United States, “The Youth” won best picture, and in doing so will be screened at The CMF Hollywood film festival June, according to Mr. Doshi.
If ranked number one in that competition, it will also be screened at the most prestigious film festival in the world, the Cannes Film Festival 2014 in France, according to Mr. Doshi.
Mr. Doshi said the film was also recently featured on MTVU.COM as the “focus film.” A partner of MTV.COM, MTVU.COM reaches college demographics, Mr. Doshi said.
Only 13 out of hundreds of films were chosen, “The Youth” was also recently selected to appear in this weekend’s Rahway International Film Festival on June 21, according to Mr. Doshi.
Mr. Doshi said the exposure of the film is a great opportunity for South Brunswick alumni to show students that following your dreams is possible, as well as showing great pride for not only the high school, but the town of South Brunswick as well.
