EDISON — The township’s Lindeneau School paid homage to the Garden State with its New Jersey Day on May 23.
The event was run by the fourth-grade teachers as a fun way to help their students review and expand on their knowledge of New Jersey.
The day’s events included playing state Geography Bingo, along with a food tasting of a variety of fresh New Jersey produce and voting on taste favorites.
In the garden, students decorated pots and planted state flowers to take home.
The Middlesex County Cultural & Heritage Commission gave a presentation about the Lenape Indians, and students were able to view and hold artifacts from that time.
Ted Latham, an educator and trustee at the Edison Memorial Tower and Museum, provided a hands-on experience about the life and accomplishments of Thomas Edison, utilizing artifacts from Edison’s time.
The students then created a “New Jersey Museum” for all to view, which included essays, research reports and Lenape dioramas. Students also completed a science experiment on local sand and decorated shells from the Jersey Shore.
Family members were invited to join in on the fun at this free event.
The Edison Township Education Association funded the supplies and refreshments for this event, which was organized and coordinated by Lindeneau teachers to support the district’s social studies curriculum.
