To the editor:
What’s the big deal that Councilman Maffei asked for 30 extra days to pay the new garbage tax? “Bulk trash fee due date changed” (June 21.)
This coming from the councilman who supported last year’s 17 percent tax hike referendum in April and then denied it on the record at the Dec. 4 council meeting, having said this exact quote in response to a resident’s remarks: “It’s been said that we tried to raise the taxes 17 percent on the public last year. That is not true. Now I don’t want it said any more.”
Note to Councilman Maffei and the rest of the council. Yes, you did try to raise taxes 17% percent last year and your denial doesn’t make it go away. We don’t need another 30 days for this new bulk trash fee. What we need is a change in leadership across the board in town hall.
I strongly support Max Ramos and Glenn Collins for Town Council. They are both political outsiders with deep business backgrounds and strong community ties and they have promised to represent the taxpayer. Please join me in supporting Ramos and Collins for Lawrence Town Council.
