Roadwork part of 2013 capital projects
HAMILTON — In light of the 2013 capital budget, which provides funding for road repairs, several such plans have been approved throughout the year.
According to a township release, Mayor Kelly A. Yaede’s 2013 capital budget invests over $5 million to fund 29 needed road repair projects as part of 2013 township budget, which keeps township taxes flat.
”Despite the fact that our 2013 Township Budget spends nearly $1 million less than last year’s and will keep township taxes flat for our hard-working taxpayers, I felt that funding these needed road repair projects was a priority for the future of our community and in maintaining our residents’ high quality of life,” Mayor Yaede said in a statement.
Since 2008, Hamilton has funded nearly 100 road repair projects across its 625 lane miles of local roads, not including this year’s additional 29 repair projects.
This year’s plan of road repairs will help repave local streets in neighborhoods all across the community, including the Sunnybrae/Dover Plaza area of Yardville, Mercerville, Whitehorse, Olden Terrace, Briarwood, Broad Street Park, Lalor Tract, Bromley, Hamilton Square, Forest Valley/White City, University Heights, Rolling Acres and Extonville neighborhoods, as well the roads in the Quakerbridge Road, East State Street Extension and North Crosswicks areas of Hamilton.
The specific roads are among those in the greatest need of repair, following annual township inspections and road-quality ratings.
”By investing in critical infrastructure needs, such as our roads, we are investing in the foundation of our community – one that continues to attract new businesses to our hometown,” Mayor Yaede said. “By continuing our commitment to our roads, which this year’s capital budget plan does, I believe that we will also continue to see new businesses coming to Hamilton and witness our existing businesses and retail centers renovating or expanding their operations.”
One prominent road repair project earmarked as part of this year’s plan is the reconstruction of another portion of heavily traveled Klockner Road, in between Whitehorse-Mercerville and Whitehorse-Hamilton Square Road, which will be partially funded with a $220,000 State grant. This builds upon recent repairs of other sections of this major township arterial road.
Also funded through the capital budget plan is $125,000 in various accessible ramp installations and necessary curb/sidewalk work.
Additionally, the plan invests $230,000 in needed community drainage in the Whitehorse area of the township.
