MARLBORO — Whether a child needs an antibiotic at 2 a.m. or an individual is too sick to leave his bed, the owner of a new pharmacy in the village section of Marlboro plans to answer the call for assistance.
Stan Hish, the pharmacist who owns the Marlboro Village Pharmacy, 12 School Road West, said he will aim to keep his customers in good health by any means necessary.
“It all boils down to personal service and what you get out of that visit to the pharmacy,” Hish said. “Do you wait for 45 minutes for your prescriptions to be filled or do you come here, talk to the pharmacist, get the information you need and go home knowing you got the right thing?”
The pharmacy offers free delivery, and customers may order refills of their prescriptions and transfer their business to the Marlboro Village Pharmacy online, over the phone or in person, Hish said.
Should a patron need medicine when the business is closed, that individual may call Hish on his cell phone to place an immediate order, he said.
Hish said he will provide pharmaceutical compounding services. The process enables the pharmacist to customize the dosage, flavor and ingredients in a medication, based on the buyer’s prescription and preference, he said.
Hish commissioned Sartoretto Verna, of Rome, Italy, which has drawn up plans for more than 900 pharmacies worldwide, to design the shop.
“This is the first pharmacy on U.S. soil they have built,” Hish said. “It is an open design with displays that speak to you.”
The business sits near the intersection of School Road West and Route 79 in a zone that Marlboro officials hope will eventually become a hub of foot traffic and commerce.
Hish, who chose the site partially for that reason, said he looks forward to growing the Marlboro Village Pharmacy alongside the township’s quaint downtown area.
“I think it is a long process. The closer we get to it, the better it is going to be for everyone involved — the local residents first and foremost,” he said of the vision for the neighborhood.
