Swing dancing, beginner chess and “Technology for the Middle School Parent” are among the eight courses being offered in the first adult education season organized by the Hillsborough Township Board of Education.
An adult school has been in the minds of school district administrators for more than a year since it was inserted into the long-range strategic plan as a potential moneymaker to bring in revenue to the school district.
The plan refers to it when it says the district will “investigate and implement, when applicable, revenue-generating activities that are aligned to the district’s mission.”
As such, classes must have a minimum number of enrollees to be offered, said Kia Bergman, school spokeswoman.
Classes will be held throughout the district’s nine schools beginning in July and August. Courses range in price from $24 to $240.
The Community Adult Education Program is accepting class registration.
District teachers will teach the courses. Students are responsible for providing their own materials.
Courses are open to all Hillsborough residents 18 and older as well as adults who work or live in the surrounding communities.
Courses include:
Digital photography ($240), 10 two-hour sessions, Monday to Friday, starting Aug. 5, taught by Faith Wight.
Beginning Chess and More ($96), four two-hour sessions, Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting July 9, taught by Robert Massaroni.
