Several bicycles worth a total of more than $1,000 were reported stolen from various homes and public places in Princeton over a three-day period last week, according to police records.
The first victim was a resident on the first block of Cleveland Lane, who reported that someone went into his or her unlocked garage sometime during the night on July 1 and stole a bike worth about $75.
Two days later on July 3, two victims reported a total of four bicycles were stolen with the bulk of bicycles being taken from residences during the evening.
A parent of a juvenile victim called that morning at 9:15 a.m. to report a previous bike theft. The parent told police that someone had stolen their child’s red and white Trek mountain bike valued at $550 from the bike rack at the Princeton High School sometime between June 7 and June 14.
A Mulberry Row resident reported that three bicycles were taken from the front porch of his or her apartment sometime between 6:20 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. The victim said he or she found one of the bikes by Nassau Street, but that the other two, which are worth an estimated total of $550, were still missing.
The following morning, a resident on the first block of William Street called the police at 8:53 a.m. to report his $400 Trek mountain bike was stolen from the side of his house sometime during the night of July 3.
The final bike theft report came a couple days later on July 6, when a victim reported someone stole his or her unlocked $90 bicycle from the bike rack at the Community Pool sometime between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. that day.
Sgt. Mike Cifelli said the bike thefts appear to be unrelated at this time.
