Baruch College catcher Jasdeep Buttar collected a number of postseason honors following an outstanding freshman season.
The J.P. Stevens High School graduate was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Rookie of the Year, as well as the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Rookie of the Year. He was also voted to the All-ECAC Metro First Team.
“It is an honor to receive this award,” Buttar said in a college press release. “I have to thank my team, my coaches and parents for being there for me throughout it all.”
“It’s been a great season,” he added. “I couldn’t have asked for a better team to play with, and I feel honored to receive this award.”
The freshman batted .354 — top 10 in the conference — with 16 doubles. He had 25 RBIs and scored 28 runs. Converted to catcher for this season, he only made eight errors during the course of the campaign. His fielding percentage was .965.
Baruch reached the championship finals of the CUNYAC/MCU Tournament, losing 1-0 to the College of Staten Island at MCU Park in Coney Island, Brooklyn, N.Y. The Bearcats finished the season 20-18.
