MONTGOMERY: Fireworks cancelled for this year

Public safety officials, citing weather conditions forecast for tomorrow, July 11, have cancelled the Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks for 2013.

MONTGOMERY — Public safety officials, citing weather conditions forecast for tomorrow, July 11, have cancelled the Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks for 2013.
”Steady rain during tomorrow afternoon/evening precludes a safe fireworks event,” they said.
The pyrotechnics company needs a certain amount of time without rain to be able to unload and set-up the fireworks safely. Wet fireworks are dangerous and can malfunction and seriously compromise the safety of pyrotechnicians and the public, they said.
Vendors, including the pyrotechnicians, who travel several hours, must be given 24 hours advanced notice of changes, so the township must rely upon the best forecasting info available at the time.
Pre-sold, reserved parking spots that provide guaranteed onsite parking will be honored for next year. The Recreation Department maintains a list of purchasers and will reissue new passes for the 2014 event.
All money collected for 2013 will be applied towards the 2014 event.
