   The Chesterfield Township Committee meeting for tonight, July 11, has been cancelled.

   The Crosswicks Community Association, with the participation of Boy Scout Troop 55 and the Trenton Detachment of the Marine Corps League, will sponsor a flag-raising ceremony at 11:45 a.m. July 13 at the Crosswicks Community House in memory of Crosswicks resident First Lt. John Bradman, who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.
   The Chesterfield Township Healthy Community Farmers Market will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon beginning Saturday, July 13, in front of the Chesterfield Township Elementary School at 30 Saddle Way.
   Fresh produce from Chesterfield Township farms will be available as well as prepared foods and crafts.

   The Crosswicks Friends Meeting Craft Night will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, at the First Day School, located on the grounds of the Meeting House in Crosswicks.
   This free event is an opportunity to come together to share conversation and fellowship while working on one’s own craft projects (sewing, quilting, spinning, scrapbooking, etc.). Bring any craft. All are welcome to attend.

   The Crosswicks Library Summer Reading Program registration has begun. This year’s program, “Dig Into Reading,” is an opportunity for Chesterfield Township Elementary School students to maintain and develop their reading skills throughout the summer. Children borrow and read library books from the Crosswicks Public Library and report on what they have read to volunteer listeners. The volunteers will keep track of the child’s progress in a journal and on a graph chart at the library. At the completion of the program, the children attend a small social held at the library to celebrate their reading accomplishments.    The Crosswicks Community Association’s annual Croquet Classic will be held from noon to 8 p.m., Saturday, July 13, at the Crosswicks Community House Village Green, 480 Main St. No prior experience necessary to play. There will be cash prizes, and live music by the Successful Failures, John McMenamin and Tom Parr. There will also be kids croquet, family games, root beer floats and cookie sales.    The New Jersey Record Company, FDR label, has announced a July 23 release date for the new compilation CD, “My Hometown: a Tribute to NJ.”
   All proceeds from the sale of the album will go to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.
   The label will celebrate with a release show on Friday, July 26, in Bordentown at The Record Collector.
   The show will feature performances by The Successful Failures, The Cryptkeeper Five, Janet LaBelle and The Paper Jets. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $12.
   Fans can pre-order the CD at www.fdrlabel.com and receive an immediate download of one song from the album. The full album will be available on July 23.

   The Chesterfield Township Environmental Commission is giving Chesterfield Township residents a chance to win a tree. Each month the Environmental Commission is featuring a particular species of tree and asking the Chesterfield residents to take pictures of the featured tree. At the monthly meeting, the Environmental Commission will judge which picture is best. The winner will be contacted by email and will win a new tree to plant.    The 2013 Chesterfield Township Against Substance Abuse Summer Program will be open to all Chesterfield Township children entering the first grade to students completing the sixth grade. Students entering kindergarten in September are not permitted. The goal of the program is to provide the children of Chesterfield with positive activities that reinforce positive decision-making skills needed in today’s world. The program provides typical summertime recreational activities, such as sports and games, arts and crafts, and board games. The program will be held at the school from 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and will run the weeks of July 9 to Aug. 1.    The Crosswicks-Doctors Creek Watershed Association announces the continuation of a well-water testing initiative within the Crosswicks- Doctors Creek Watershed. This is an opportunity for local residents to learn about the safety of their well water. The initiative is being funded, in part, by a grant from The Watershed Institute. Through this initiative, the association is able to offer the test to residents of the watershed for $95. The regular price of this test is $225. All water samples will be analyzed by a certified New Jersey laboratory, and all who participate in the program will receive a one-year membership to the association and a free T-shirt.    The Chesterfield Township Emergency Squad is currently seeking new volunteer members to join their organization. The squad has been providing emergency services to the residents of Chesterfield and surrounding towns since 1988, and this year will be celebrating its 25th year of service.    The Chesterfield Township Environmental Commission is participating in a recycling program for inkjet cartridges, toner cartridges and cell phones. The commission receives credits for each cartridge and cell phone and will use the credits toward reforestation, protection of natural resources and ecological education.
