Orientation
Local students are scheduled to attend orientation at the University of Delaware in Newark.
They join the Blue Hen family during the ritual.
The orientation is held every weekday through July 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Local students attending include Emily Moyes, Kathryn Oliva, Sean Doyle, Danielle Friedman and Grace Hluchy, all of Monroe Township; and Adam Klein, Rachael Desimone, David Catalano and Nicholas Mercuro, all of Cranbury.
Each incoming student is assigned a day to visit the campus where they can interact with classmates and experience a glimpse of life at the university before the semester begins.
Upon arrival, students will receive the day’s itinerary, which will include a Barnes and Noble Bookstore tour, an ID card appointment, an academic advisement meeting, two special interest sessions and a UDairy Creamery treat.
Blue Hen parents also are invited to attend where they will receive their own schedule to follow throughout the day.
Both students and parents will learn about the university’s resources in academics, co-curricular opportunities, on-campus housing, health, safety, dining plans, financial aid and more.
Dana Sahli, of Cranbury, graduated from Gettysburg (Pennsylvania) College on May 19, majoring in organization and management studies.
New student
Morgan Schweitzer, of Monroe Township, has enrolled in Coastal Carolina University in CONWAY, South Carolina, for the fall semester.
She joins nearly 2,200 other new students in the Class of 2017.
Before classes begin in August, all new first-year students will visit the campus for a two-day orientation program where they will meet their academic advisors and learn what is expected of them as they transition from high school to college.
Academic honors
Stephanie Irene Streit, of Monroe Township, has been named to the president’s list at Herkimer (New York) County Community College for the spring semester.
Ms. Streit is majoring in travel and tourism: hospitality and events management.
Graduates
Sara Almeida and Olivia Welna, both of Monroe Township, and Megan Wiseman, of Cranbury, graduated May 25 from the University of Delaware’s in Newark.
Arya Mehta, of Cranbury, received a bachelor’s of arts degree from Emory College of Arts and Sciences of Emory University in Atlanta at its 168th commencement ceremony May 13.
Janelle Van Siclen, of Cranbury, graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s of science degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.
Ms. Van Siclen is the daughter of Andrew and Karen Van Siclen and a graduate of Princeton High School.
At Susquehanna, she was active in Alpha Phi Omega.
She was named to the Dean’s List and was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta.

A student must carry 12 or more credits that semester and have a 3.5 grade point average or above to be named to the dean’s list.
Joseph Kirkenir, of Cranbury, has been named to dean’s honor list for the spring semester at Gettysburg (Pennsylvania) College.
Students with a quality point average of 3.60 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for a semester’s work are placed on the dean’s honor list.
Jean Lontka, of Monroe Township, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Oregon.
To qualify, students must achieve and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while completing a minimum of 12 hours of graded coursework for the duration of the term.
Elizabeth Maligranda, of Monroe Township, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island.
Ms. Maligranda, is a junior majoring in English communications.
To qualify for the dean’s list, full-time undergraduate students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.6 with no grade below a B in that semester.
