Officials seek to promote higher levels of student success

HAMILTON — The Township’s Board of Education recently adopted a 5-year strategic plan to improve grades and educational settings of district students with more funding and stricter standards.
The plan allows for different ways to achieve the success of the students as well as providing for the implementation of the new strategy, said Jeff Hewitson, board president.
”We just want to help our students, improve their achievement levels and their environment,” Mr. Hewitson said.
The plan was drawn up by a strategic planning committee made up of administrators, board members, teachers and parents, focusing on stricter standards and more curriculum changes for students.
The new curriculum will include a stronger focus on science and math courses.
Along with an altered curriculum, the board will implement a program that will allow them to identify special needs children at an earlier age, which calls for more support from teachers. The school district will be working with other districts that have been successful with similar endeavors in the past.
The plan also addresses infrastructure concerns, putting money into some of Hamilton’s crumbling school buildings.
”This plan will be the springboard for our dialogue with the community,” said Michael Gilbert, director of curriculum and instruction. “This will help us chart the future of Hamilton Township.”
