A woman reported at headquarters at 8 a.m. June 24 that her 2000 black Lincoln had been stolen while parked on South 5th Avenue between June 22 and 23. The car, valued at $2,200, was placed into the national crime registry.
A man said at noon June 24 that someone had gone into his wife’s purse while they were at the Colorado Avenue pool and took her brown leather Guess wallet with $400 cash, Costa Rican identification and two debit cards.
Lt. John Crater charged Anthony Laeyt, 28, on South Main Street at 1:14 p.m. June 24 for theft of an iPod Touch and jewelry on May 24 on South 6th Avenue and uttering a forged document at the Bank of America on June 11. He also arrested him on an outstanding fugitive warrant. He was taken to the county jail.
Sgt. Jeffery Petrone told Jeremy Watts of the Northern Southern Railroad at 1:41 p.m. June 24 that equipment being used in work on the northern line of the railway was pitching stones into the road and onto property along North Street. The officer told Mr. Watts the stones needed to be contained better, and he was told North Street would be cleaned by workers. Sgt. Petrone told the job’s immediate supervisor the same thing, police said.
A Watchung woman reported at headquarters a couple of minutes past midnight June 25 that her black Guess purse, valued at $30, was stolen at the Reading Cinemas between 5:30 and 7 p.m. The purse had among other items, her house keys, driver’s license, $30 in cash and a sterling silver bracelet valued at $50. One of her bank debit cards was shown to be used three times at an ATM in Bound Brook between 6:11 and 8:01 p.m. for withdrawals totaling $325. An investigation was begun.
A Huff Avenue caller said at 1:53 p.m. June 25 that someone had damaged her car while it was parked in the street in front of her home. Patrolman William Sampson noted a small dent in the upper portion of the driver’s side door, with damage estimated at $250.
A caller at 2:11 p.m. June 25 reported six or seven loud bangs in the area of Huff Avenue and Bridge Street. Sgt. Petrone checked the area and found nothing amiss. A Department of Public Works employee mowing grass along Manville Avenue didn’t hear anything, the officer reported.
A caller at about 6 p.m. June 25 said two juveniles had used a marker pen to draw on the playground equipment in the park on Haran Avenue. An officer confirmed the mischief. There was no estimate of damage.
A Boesel Avenue caller at 6:13 p.m. June 25 reported the theft of her gas grill from a grill pad between 6 p.m. June 24 and 6 p.m. June 25. The grill was valued at $350.
At 5:44 a.m. June 26, a Bound Brook woman turned in at headquarters two keys on a tie-dye-colored key ring she found on the sidewalk near the post office on Brooks Boulevard. Police put the keys into their “found” property box.
A man came to headquarters at 4:58 p.m. June 26 and said that two days earlier he had withdrawn $2,500 from the Bank of America on South Main Street at about 3:30 p.m. and while walking to his vehicle lost the money. He wanted the incident to be on the record.
Walmart security reported a shoplifter, and police responded to charge Athelstan J. Jarrett Jr., 18, of New Brunswick, at 1:46 p.m. June 27. The value of goods said to have been taken is $988.
County communications reported a single vehicle had crashed into the rear of the Manville Diner on South Main Street, creating only “cosmetic” damage at 2:12 p.m. June 28.
Burnt fish sticks triggered a fire alarm at a home on St. Mark’s Place at 5:28 p.m. June 28.
A South 8th Avenue woman came to headquarters at 9:42 p.m. June 28 and asked for help locating her friend, a 47-year-old man from East Hartford, Connecticut. She said he was traveling by train to visit her June 26 and failed to show up. She asked police to check his home, and Manville officers passed along the request to Connecticut authorities. At 11:04 the same night, she came to headquarters to report him missing and told police she was defrauded out of $3,000 by someone she had met on the Internet and had never met in person. An investigation continues.
A Valerie Drive, Somerville, caller at 8:52 a.m. June 29 said his home and property had been splattered by numerous washable paint balls overnight. Police confirmed the home had been hit seven to 10 times without causing damage.
At 1:06 p.m. June 2, Bound Brook police advised of an armed robbery in their town. Manville police stood by at Duke’s Parkway and Main Street to look for the suspect, described as a man driving a dark Kia west on Route 28.
A North Orchard Street woman at 3:20 p.m. June 29 reported the theft of a bottle of Oxycodone pills, valued at $15, from her bathroom after a party at her residence on June 22.
A caller said several ducks were stuck in a storm drain at Czaplicki Street and East Frech Avenue at 6:42 a.m. June 30. Animal control and the on-duty DPW employee responded, and the ducks were rescued.
A Washington Avenue woman told police at 5 p.m. June 30 that she believed her neighbor had put three plastic dog toys into her gutter downspouts and wanted the incident on the record.
About 10 basketball players at Weston School courts were moved along by police at 11:08 p.m. June 30.
A North 7th Avenue woman reported at 10:15 a.m. July 1 that her vehicle had been broken into, and a GPS system, valued at $100, was taken from the middle console.
A West Camplain Road homeowner said at 4:55 p.m. July 1 that his fence had been damaged overnight with repair estimated at $200.
A Huff Avenue man, 22, was arrested at 12:26 a.m. July 2 on a Manville warrant for DV criminal mischief. He also was charged with resisting arrest and obstruction and subsequently taken to the hospital for an examination.
A Gladys Avenue woman called at 6:32 a.m. July 2 and said a flag and flagpole, with a total value of $30, was taken from the front of her residence sometime overnight.
An Adesa Auto Auction employee reported at 11:41 a.m. July 2 that a stolen Toyota Rav4 was in the lot on North Main Street. Teletypes were sent to North Bergen from where the vehicle was stolen.
Tyler J. Miller, 22, of Manville, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and less than 50 grams of a controlled dangerous substance in the Memorial Pool parking lot at 10:35 p.m. July 2. He was released on a summons.
A Brooks Boulevard woman called at 7:15 a.m. July 3 to report possible damage to the front bumper of her 2009 Honda Civic. Police reported damage occurred on another date at another location. The owner was advised.
A caller reported at about 3 p.m. July 3 that, while cleaning his boat, a suspicious yellow powder dispersed from a handheld vacuum cleaner he had recently bought. Patrols determined the yellow powder was caused by the caller’s free hand resting on the fire extinguisher handle.
Bridgewater police reported at 8:13 p.m. July 4 that a man, 66, of Wyoming Place, had fallen and injured his hand in the area of Brooks Boulevard and North 2nd Avenue. The rescue squad took the man to Somerset Medical Center.
A South 8th Avenue woman reported at 8 a.m. July 5 that her 2003 Mercury Sable was missing from the Chester House parking lot. It was last seen at 2 a.m. The vehicle was entered into the national crime computer.
A caller at 1:46 a.m. July 6 said an Apple Mac ProBook and a microphone, with an estimated total value of $2,700, had been taken from a North 3rd Avenue residence between 1:30 and 2 p.m. the previous day.
