Volunteers brought the fireworks back

The return of Independence Day fireworks was a huge success.
The Foundation for Bordentown Traditions, a nonprofit group composed of local residents and business persons, spearheaded the effort to bring back the Fourth of July fireworks.
These volunteers raised money at events such as the fall Turkey Trot and the car show recently held in Bordentown City, and tirelessly sought out the many sponsors who contributed generously to this year’s event.
Their 18-month fundraising effort, along with financial support from the township and Bordentown City, made it possible for us to enjoy this wonderful celebration of our nation’s birth.
The park and facilities were in excellent condition thanks to the hard work of the township’s Public Works Department. They worked feverishly for three days on park preparation and were very visible — helping to set up, to repair and trouble-shoot event mishaps, and to clean up after the event. They did a great job.
Many thanks to 17 township police officers, joined by officers from the city, who worked hard to move traffic and provide a safe environment at this event that drew somewhere between 4,000 and 5,000 people.
Bordentown Emergency Medical Services and the township’s district 1 and 2 fire departments were out in force, just in case.
The Bordentown Regional School District was very supportive and opened school restroom facilities for us.
Many township residents volunteered their time at the event to make it happen, and let’s not forget our local vendors and organizations that provided delicious food and treats.
Everyone involved worked hard to make this the enjoyable and safe affair that it was.
The Fourth of July is a time to honor our country and celebrate with family, friends and community, and what a celebration it was in Bordentown.
Many people have commented to me that it was the best fireworks display they have ever attended.
I am sure that everyone enjoyed the evening as much as I did. We will all work to make it annual event once again.
