WEST AMWELL — The South Hunterdon Regional High School District has a new interim superintendent of schools, Louis T. Muenker.
His official starting date was July 1.
Dr. Muenker replaces Joanne Calabro, who recently resigned as interim superintendent amid reports that parents who were dissatisfied with her job performance were circulating petitions calling for her dismissal.
Dr. Muenker is a veteran educator, who has held many administrative positions, most of them in the Neshaminy, Pennsylvania school district.
He is a former superintendent of that district. Before being superintendent of schools there, he was assistant superintendent and human resources director; pupil services director; an elementary school principal; an assistant middle school principal; and an elementary school counselor.
Prior to working at Neshaminy, he was a middle school counselor in the Bensalem, Pennsylvania district and a K-12 director of guidance in the Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania district.
Dr. Muenker is married and the father of four daughters. He has six grandchildren, all under 5 years old.
”He enjoys landscaping, the outdoors and working on home projects,” a South Hunterdon Regional Board of Education spokesman said.
”We are looking forward to the wealth of experience Dr. Muenker will be bringing to South Hunterdon. Dr. Muenker is excited about joining our South Hunterdon community and said he was drawn to South Hunterdon’s strong reputation for quality education as well as the unique character of the community,” the spokesman added.
”When you see Dr. Muenker, please take a moment to welcome him to South,” the spokesman said in an email message.
On Tuesday, Dr. Muenker, in an email message, said: “The first few days of my tenure here at South have been great and I look forward to meeting the students and parents this September.
”I will be able to meet many of the students later in August when they start practices for fall sports and band! Everyone has been helpful and have made me feel very welcome.”
