BORDENTOWN CITY: Fire Department gets funds to purchase protective equipment

The Bordentown City Fire Department will receive a competitive, federal grant in the amount of $189,407.
The grant is being provided by the Department of Homeland Security through its Assistance to Firefighters Grant. The Bordentown City Fire Department will be using these grant funds for personal protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus, according to a press release from District 3 Congressman Jon Runyon.
“Properly equipping our firefighters is one of the most basic steps we can take to show our firefighters and our communities we care about their safety,” Congressman Runyan said. “Investing in our firefighters is an investment in our communities. I am happy to see that this grant will directly benefit Bordentown City’s firefighters and the public.”
John J. Walls, chief of the Consolidated Fire Association of the Bordentown City Fire Department, thanked his staff and officers for all of their hard work preparing the application and said, “These new self-contained breathing apparatus and personal protective equipment will improve the safety of our firefighters in Bordentown City. Safety is a big thing in today’s fire service; we are committed to making sure that everyone returns home safely.”
Representative Runyan is a member of the Congressional Fire Caucus and is a champion of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. In the 112th and 113th Congresses, he authored budget-neutral amendments to increase funding for firefighter grant programs by $5 million. These bi-partisan amendments passed the House of Representatives unanimously.
