Terhune Orchards is hosting its first Just Peachy festival at the farm at 330 Cold Soil Road Aug. 3 and 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The festival is free and will include live music both days. There will be activities for children, including a ride through the orchards on a tractor-drawn wagon, plus pony rides, games and barnyard fun.
A special feature of the new summer harvest festival is the “Bounty of the Farm” farm-to-fork tasting section, featuring local chefs who will use local ingredients to prepare recipes for visitors to sample. The tasting area will be open from noon to 4 p.m. both days, and admission is $5 for adults. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
Food also will be available for purchase at another tent, including peach pie, peach cobbler, sliced peaches and cream, and peach salsa. Kim Rizk of Jammin’ Crepes will sell peach crepes at the festival.
Traditional summer fare, such as barbecued chicken, hot dogs, homemade gazpacho, salads, apple cider donuts and cider slushies, also will be available for purchase.
Adults can visit Terhune Orchards’ wine-tasting room to sample some wines, including its award-winning Just Peachy wine. Peach sangria also will be on tap.
Terhune Orchards also is taking part in the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council’s first “Perfect Peach Pie” contest during the festival. It is open to any amateur baker and must be either a peach pie or peach cobbler. Professional chefs will judge entries at the festival. Register for the contest at the Terhune Orchards farm store or at www.terhuneochards.com.
