HILLSBOROUGH: College students collect diplomas

Graduation announcements

   Jonathan Pavlik of Hillsborough graduated cum laude from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va., on May 17. He earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting and information systems from the Pamplin College of Business.
   Jonathan was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester. In the fall, he will return to Virginia Tech to attend graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in accounting and information systems and to earn educational requirements to become licensed as a certified public accountant.

   Brianna Patane, a 2007 Hillsborough High School graduate, has earned a doctor of physical therapy degree from Quinnipiac (Conn.) University.
   Brianna completed her doctoral studies with a cumulative GPA of 3.9. She is in the process of completing her internship at a clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. She will be sitting for the New Jersey Boards this winter.

   More than 3,200 undergraduate and 770 graduate students were awarded diplomas at commencement at the University of Rhode Island on May 18-19.
   From Hillsborough are:
   Francis J. Jawidzik, who received bachelor of arts degrees in history and in secondary education, summa cum laude, for earning a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.7;
   Joseph W. Higgins received a bachelor of arts in writing and rhetoric;
   Kristina T. Gregory received a bachelor of science in human development and family studies with a minor in psychology;
   Michelle F. Dennis received a bachelor of science in marine biology with a minor in underwater archaeology.

   Thomas M. Williams, son of Marty and Ginny Williams of Hillsborough, graduated Sunday, May 5, from the Pennsylvania State University’s Smeal College of Business with a bachelor of science degree in marketing and a minor in management information systems.
   Thomas was a member of the Smeal College of Business Marketing Association and the Penn State Blue and White Society. He served on the public relations committee of Penn State’s IFC/Panhellenic dance marathon, also known as Thon, the largest student-run philanthropic organization in the world. It provides financial and emotional support to pediatric cancer patients and their families. Thomas is a 2009 graduate of Hillsborough High School.

   Mark Apostolos of Hillsborough graduated with a juris doctor degree from Albany (N.Y.) Law School at the school’s 162nd commencement, held May 17, at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
   Albany Law School is the oldest independent law school in the nation.
