American Legion Post 401 Recognized for Scouting Support

By Gary Cooper
American Legion Post 401 was recognized by the Joyce Kilmer District, Central New Jersey Council of the Boy Scouts for its Silver Sponsorship of Scout Day at the Somerset Patriots, June 9, 2013. The event started in 2012 as a way to thank the scouts and their families for the thousands of hours of service they give the community through their many projects.
“This honor is not just one-sided,” said Gary Cooper Post 401 commander. “Being a sponsor of Troop 10 is very important to us; we can see first-hand the dedication of their leaders, what the boys are learning and how valuable an experience scouting is for them. We benefit from them being around our Post, so, it was only natural that we supported this worthwhile program.”
Terri McDonald-Hartel, Joyce Kilmer District commissioner, presented Dennis Collingwood, Post 401 2nd vice commander and Boy Scout liaison, and Gary Cooper, Post commander, with awards for the past two years of sponsorship.
