BORDENTOWN CITY: Local chef recognized among peers

Chef Matthew McElmoyl, of Oliver A Bistro, has been honored as one of the country’s top culinary talents in the inaugural edition of “Best Chefs America.”
The book is the first-ever peer review guide of United States chefs chosen by “Best Chefs America” analysts and more than 5,000 chefs after extensive interviews.
This honor puts Chef McElmoyl in very exclusive company, as this select list represents less than percent of all the chefs in the United States.
Chef McElmoyl said he is honored and humbled to have been chosen by his peers for inclusion in the list of “Best Chefs America.” He said that this recognition gives him yet another reason to be appreciative of his colleagues and profession, with the hope that it brings notoriety to Oliver A Bistro as well as Bordentown City.
“Chefs themselves truly understand what it takes to be successful in this competitive industry, and ‘Best Chefs America’ offers them a forum to express their views on who really stands out,” Elizabeth Fishburne, “Best Chefs America” marketing coordinator said. “Our analysts conducted more than 5,000 confidential telephone interviews consisting of a series of proprietary questions with chef nominated chefs, culinary professionals and food enthusiasts across the country and the interview results were used to aggregate the data. Chefs earning the highest scores among their peers in their region were included in the guide. The process dictated that only chefs who received the requisite number of mentions by fellow chefs made it onto the list. Chefs recognizing fellow chefs makes ‘Best Chefs America’ the ultimate chef’s guide to chefs.”
Chef McElmoyl started his career earning an Associates Degree in culinary arts from the Academy of Culinary Arts in Mays Landing. His hands- on experience has included working with some of the best chefs and prestigious restaurants in the Southern New Jersey/Eastern Pennsylvania region, including Renault Winery in Egg Harbor, Chef Volas in Atlantic City, Brasserie Perrier in Philadelphia, Pa., Lacroix in Philadelphia, Pa. and Sails in Somer Point.
The result of his education and experience is Oliver A Bistro. Since taking over the restaurant in 2006, Oliver A Bistro has become a “Favorite Dining Spot” in the region and has received “Very Good” to “Excellent” reviews from several major New Jersey magazines and newspapers, including the New York Times. The bistro also has a Zagat rating among the best in New Jersey.
During the past two years, Chef McElmoyl has been a part-time adjunct instructor of culinary arts at the Trenton campus of Mercer County Community College.
“Best Chefs America” is a 386-page coffee table book with chef listings broken down both geographically and alphabetically. The book also features photography, emerging culinary trends and ingredients and profiles of the 25 “most influential chefs in the country” as chosen by the more than 5,000 interviewed. The book costs $75, which includes shipping and can be purchased at www.bestchefsamerica.com/ book.
