Lights for night games at Hopewell Valley Central High School’s turf athletic field may not be ready for the fall athletic season, school officials said at the July 15 school board meeting.
Bids came in higher than expected for the job of hooking up the lights to electricity, the officials said.
”It’s too soon to tell” if the lights will be ready for the opening of the fall athletic season, school district Business Administrator Robert Colavita said.
The $1 million turf field, which came into use last fall, was built with funds raised by the nonprofit Hopewell Valley Recreation Foundation.
Also at the July 15 board meeting, Mr. Colavita reported that work is progressing on the high school’s new varsity baseball field, located on the grounds of Timberlane Middle School.
Grading of the field is done, he said, as is construction of a gravel access road to the field.
In other projects, Mr. Colavita said that work on Central High School’s roof “is coming along” and that the school district hopes to have new security cameras installed at the elementary schools before the 2013-14 school year begins in September.
The retirement of a custodian with 25 years of service in the Hopewell Valley district was accepted at the July 15 meeting. Paul Beckingham, a custodian at Central High School, has been with the district since 1988. His retirement begins Aug. 1.
Scott Hahn, until now a custodian at Timberlane Middle School, was appointed head custodian at Toll Gate Grammar School, effective July 1, for the 2013-14 school year. His annual salary will be $50,476.
Two teachers also were appointed at the July 15 meeting.
Kristen Danieluk was appointed an elementary teacher at Stony Brook Elementary for 2013-14. Ms. Danieluk, who has a master’s degree, will be paid an annual salary of $66,963.
Lynda Goetz, who also has a master’s degree, was appointed to a part-time position as teacher of the blind and visually impaired at Stony Brook Elementary for 2013-14.
Her annual salary will be $34,739.
