Sweeter Than Honey performed on Saturday at the South Brunswick Woodlot Community Center as part of a series of Concerts in the Park organized by the township.
Sweeter Than Honey is a contemporary rock band made up of three siblings from Florham Park. The band has played in all 21 counties in New Jersey and in various states such as Florida, Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York, but this was the first time performing in South Brunswick, according to Diana Rios, mother of the siblings. Her daughter, Ruth, 21, and sons Sam, 19, and Josh, 16, started playing eight years ago, she said.
Ms. Rios said the band’s name, Sweeter Than Honey, was derived from the book of psalms, psalm 119 verse 103: “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.”
“It is nice that (the township) does this for everyone,” said Tim Faccenda, who was on hand with his family. “It gives us something to do.” His 7-year-old son, Dominic, said the music was “Good!” and danced to the song, “What I Like About You!”
Sweeter Than Honey performed various types of rock songs, some originals and “Rockcumbia” or Columbian rock music. More information about the band can be found online at www.sweeterthanhoneyband.com.
The Concerts in the Park are normally held at the Beech Woods Park Gazebo at 137 Beekman Road, Monmouth Junction, but due to Saturday’s heat advisory this concert was moved indoors to the Woodlot Community Center.
Upcoming concerts include a Magic Show and Music at 7 p.m. Friday, July 26, and with the movie “Dr Seuss, The Lorax” at 8:30 p.m.; Hidden Gems, Indian Bollywood at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, and at Virgin Vinyl, Classic Rock 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9.
