Indo-American Cultural Foundation of Central New Jersey, a nonprofit organization in Central Jersey, and the South Brunswick Family YMCA will celebrate India’s 67th Independence Day on Sunday, Aug. 18.
The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the YMCA at 329 Culver Road in Monmouth Junction. Approximately 400 to 500 people are expected to attend this free event.
The celebration will include entertainment, cultural activities, dance performances, traditional Indian dances, patriotic dances, children’s activities, a DJ, music and authentic food sampling, which will be open to all.
The program will include the American and Indian anthems followed by messages to the attendees and patriotic dances from dance groups from New Jersey.
The live DJ and music entertainment will be provided by DJ Deep with patriotic songs.
Masalajunction.com, EBC Radio, Akila News, Divya Bhaskar, Tiranga, Gujarat Darpan, Parikh Worldwide media, Asian Media USA, Sentinel, South Brunswick Post, South Brunswick Patch, Radio Dil, Radio Zindagi, TV Asia, Gujarat Samachar, NRI Tribune, HiIndia and India West are the media sponsors for this event.
The authentic Indian food sampling will be sponsored by local businesses such as Jewel of India, Chutney Mary, Masala Grill, Udipi Restaurants, Cici’s Pizza and Astha Caterers.
Henna tattoos, face paintings and moon walk and bounce will be attractions for kids.
Many high school students will provide community volunteer services during this event. The volunteer participants will be awarded with certificate of volunteerism.
South Brunswick is an ethnically diverse township with the population of South Asians, especially Indians, about 23 percent in the latest census.
The people from the surrounding towns of North Brunswick, East Brunswick, Franklin, Somerset, Monroe, Princeton, Princeton-Junction and West Windsor will attend this event.
IACFNJ has been a leader in promoting South Asian culture and values to newer generation by organizing many activities for the past 15 years in Central Jersey.
IACFNJ organizes summer picnic, Navratri Garba, cultural events to raise funds to support the local organizations and Diwali and Christmas celebrations.
The next IACFNJ event will be Navratri Garba in South Brunswick on Oct. 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19.
