RVCC officials

Thurs., Aug. 1 Raritan Valley Community College will host an information session for prospective students, 5-7 p.m., in the township library at 379 South Branch Road.
Representatives will provide information about the 90 associate degree and certificate programs, as well as non-credit, professional/personal development opportunities, the admissions and enrollment processes, paying for college, and transfer and career opportunities.

to discuss gun issues
Thurs., Aug. 1 The Politics Book Club, sponsored by the Hillsborough Democratic Alliance, continues from 7-9 p.m. at Sal’s Restaurant and Pizzeria in the CVS Shopping Mall on Triangle Road. The book, “The Last Gun How Changes in the Gun Industry are Killing Americans and What It Will Take to Stop It” by Tom Diaz, will be discussed. Sourlands map
to show preservation
Friday, Aug. 2 Sourland Planning Council’s will unveil a newly created open space map of the Sourland region that shows the preservation status of all land parcels at the Hopewell train station at Railroad Place at 7 p.m. The map was created to enable SPC and land trusts see “the big picture” when setting priorities for land preservation. campout scheduled
Fri., Aug. 2 The township annual family campout and fishing derby will be held at Ann Van Middlesworth Park beginning at 5 p.m. for fishing and 6 for dinner at the campout for those who register. Games, prizes and live music.
Local bands play
at music festival
Sat., Aug. 3 Annual Hillsborough Music Festival with local bands, dancers, rappers, singers, fine artists, crafters children’s activities and food in Applebee’s parking lot, 2-10 p.m, Hillsborough Promenade, 315 Route 206. The benefit is in support of My Son, Your Daughter, the Jonah Johnson Youth Scholarship Fund educating the community on suicide prevention and anti-violence.
Girl Scouts host
youth music fest
Sat., Aug. 3 The Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey will hold its first-ever family music festival, rain or shine, from noon to 5 p.m. at Camp DeWitt, 605 Montgomery Road, Hillsborough. Admission is $8. Bring blankets, lawn chairs and a picnic. Food may also be purchased.
The festival features the Camplified summer concert tour. Before the concert, there will be activities, including a guitar clinic and jam session, vocal training, adventure race, free swim in the camp’s Olympic-sized pool and Girl Scout program workshops.

Wed., Aug. 7 Jewish Family Service’s next support group free session for active job seekers who are unemployed, underemployed or seeking a career change, 7-9 p.m. at 150-A West High Street, Somerville.

Sat., Aug. 10 Fire Co. No. 2 will host its annual Junior Firefighter Olympics from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the firehouse at 375 Route 206. Alzheimer’s support group The Alzheimer’s Association has a support group in Hillsborough. Family members and caregivers come together to share information and support in a safe, confidential atmosphere.
