Aug. 1

   A free August outdoor concert will be performed by the Kootz Band, which performs classic rock, pop, soul and jazz, Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the library at 100 So. 10th Ave. Bring your lawn chair.
   The program is made possible, in part, by funds from the state Council on the Arts and administered by the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission.

   Teen game night: The library will hold free teen Friday game nights for kids in grades 6-12 throughout the summer from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

   Hungry Readers Book Club: The club meets from noon to 1 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. The next meeting is Aug. 12. For information, call Beverly Ball at 908-722-3057.

   Chess classes, tournament: The library is offering free classes for all ages. Call Henry at 908-458-5324 to schedule a class. All are welcome. Register online or at the library for a two-round chess tournament on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Community Room.

   Science show: The library will host a Sciencetellers program for grades 1-5 from 3 to 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7. Register online at www.sclsnj.org or call 908-722-9722.

   Crochet Club: Come and join the club at 6 p.m. the last Wednesday of the month (Aug. 28) in the Community Room. Experienced or not, you will be welcomed. Bring your own needles and yarn.

   Regular hours: Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

   Periodicals: The Somerset County Library System has added 57 new magazine titles, for which millennium serials records had to be created, at the Manville Public Library.
   A Polish-language newspaper, Nowy Dziennik, or, The New Daily, with a subtitle of Polish Daily News, is available for reading at the library. The paper is published in New York City.

   Gifts for the library: If you have DVDs and CDs that you no longer need, consider donating them to the library. In addition, IRS tax-deductible monetary contributions are accepted. Donations are greatly appreciated.

   Book sale: The library’s book sale continues. Buy the donated and surplus books to help support the library. Hardcover books cost 50 cents, softcovers 25 cents or by the bag for $2.

   The Manville library is now part of the Somerset County Library System. Manville residents who have a library card should not discard it. It will be your card to use at any library within the Somerset County system. You will not be issued a new card. New cards will be created for those who do not have one.
