Monroe gymnast crowned national floor champion

A fter capturing the state team title at the United States Association of Independent Gymnasts Clubs State Championships (USAIGC) held at Rutgers University on June 1, the qualifying gymnasts from Middlesex Gymnastics Academy in East Brunswick traveled to Palm Springs, Calif., for the USAIGC Nationals on June 25 and 26.

This was Middlesex Gymnastics Academy’s first visit to the USAIGC national competition. The gold-level team of six girls brought home a second place team title and three individual national titles.

Senior Brielle Mazzei of Monroe competed in the 18-and-over age group, where she was crowned national champion on the floor exercise with a score of 9.3. She also placed fourth on bars and came in ninth in the allaround.
