Hospice program seeking volunteers

The Haven Hospice Children’s Bereavement Program at JFK Medical Center is offering a unique opportunity to become a Haven Helper volunteer. The opportunity is available to all who have completed the Haven Hospice General Volunteer Orientation.

The next volunteer training is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 24.

Additionally, to become a Haven Volunteer, candidates are required to have immunizations and background checks, all at the expense of JFK Medical Center.

Volunteers interested in becoming facilitators of the children’s bereavement groups are invited to take advantage of an intensive four-day training, taking place Sept. 7, 8, 14 and 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at JFK Medical Center.

Upon completion of the four-day training, Haven Helpers will be equipped to co-facilitate bereavement groups, under the supervision of licensed clinicians who will always be available for consultation and support.

Volunteers who participate in the training are asked to commit to one year of service as a facilitator. Two groups per year will be scheduled — one in the fall and one in the spring, each for eight consecutive weeks. For more information, call Teresa Reitz at 732-321-7000, ext. 62071.
