Brookdale fashion students help raise funds for nonprofit

LONG BRANCH — Students in Brookdale Community College’s Fashion Merchandising Club recently donated 200 formal dresses and gowns to the Long Branch Thrift Boutique of Family & Children’s Service (FCS).

The donation was the result of a twomonth collection drive organized by the club and supported by Brookdale’s Office of Student Life and Activities.

The students began advertising for donations of new and gently used formal wear in early April, expecting to collect 50 dresses by the end of May. The drive quickly surpassed that goal.

Proceeds from the sale of the dresses will be used to support FCS programs and services, including home care, homelessness prevention and child literacy.

The FCS Thrift Boutique, 307 Branchport Ave., serves people at difficult times in their lives through education, intervention, care and counseling.

The boutique sells new and nearly new men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories, as well as linens and household items. Donations are accepted during regular business hours.

The boutique is open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

A complete list of acceptable items can be found at www.fcsmonmouth.org or www.facebook.com/thethriftboutique.
