John E. Poppe

Mr. Poppe, 86, of Jackson, formerly of Parksley, Va., died Aug. 2, 2013, at home. He was the owner and operator of Kaye Well Drilling, Jackson, for 41 years, retiring in 1991. Mr. Poppe was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received the Army Occupation Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He was predeceased by his wife, Lorena Matthews Poppe; a son, Fred S, Poppe; a daughter, Patricia A. Poppe; and a son-in-law, Thomas Mitchel. Surviving are a daughter, Joan E. Mitchell; two sons and daughters-in-law, John E. and Karen Poppe, and Gary D. and Christine Poppe; and a sister, Mary E. Poppe, all of Jackson; and 0 grandchildren. A funeral ceremony was held at the George S. Hassler Funeral Home, Jackson, followed by interment with military honors in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Jackson.
