The Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre, a Spanish dance and flamenco dance company, will perform “The Moorish Connection” at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Middlesex County College’s Main Stage Theater, 2600 Woodbridge Ave., Edison.
The audience will be treated to an afternoon of dance, live music and song exploring the era of cultural interactions of Persia and Egypt, into Cordoba, Spain, from 711 AD through 1492. During these centuries, Moorish music and dance fused with the gypsy flamenco art of that era and joined with the Hebrew chants found in the synagogues in Cordoba.
Performed with live music on stage, the Alborada company is accompanied by Espiritu Gitano, a music-and-dance group led by flamenco composer/guitarist, Arturo Martinez, and Elena Lentini, director of Caravanserai Dance Theatre.
Tickets are $20; $15 seniors and students
