HILLSBOROUGH: Two drivers snagged in police checkpoint

Police are operating "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign through Labor Day

Two drivers were charged in the late hours of Saturday into Sunday at a checkpoint operated by Hillsborough police cracking down on drunk driving as part of the Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
Arrested on charges of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were Luisa Forte, 22, of Bound Brook and John Hunter, 67, of Princeton. Township police said they were stopped at a DWI checkpoint on Route 206 near Brown Avenue between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday.
Sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols will be conducted through Sept. 2.
The national campaign, launched in 1999, aims to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving during one of the busiest travel periods.
In 2012, alcohol-impaired fatalities accounted for 19 percent of the state’s motor vehicle fatalities, according to the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety.
