The kegs are ready for tapping and the bottles are ready to be uncorked for the first annual Bordentown City Wine and Beer Festival.
The festival will take place from 2-6 p.m. Sept. 21 along Farnsworth Avenue from Crosswicks Street to Railroad Avenue. The rain date is Sept. 22.
The Downtown Bordentown Association created the event to welcome residents and visitors to explore the eateries of Bordentown City’s restaurant row and stroll through the boutiques and galleries.
A percentage of the net proceeds raised from this event will be donated to the Old City Hall restoration project. Bordentown City’s Old City Hall is a late 19th-century building that once housed the city’s entire government.
The Old City Hall Restoration Project group was formed in 2008 to fundraise and help pay for restoration work. The group would like to see Old City Hall restored to its former stature. The group also hopes to see it transition into a community space with multiple use rooms, performance areas for musical and theatrical productions and a possible museum and/or visitor’s center.
Tickets cost $20 and are available online by clicking a link at www.downtownbordentown.com. They are also being sold at the Heart of Bordentown Tavern, Farnsworth Gallery, Shoppe 202 and Rebecca’s Vintage Boutique and Consignment, which are all businesses in downtown Bordentown. Those who do not order tickets in advance will pay $25 at the door.
Patrons will receive a passport to sample the wine and craft beers at participating restaurants as well as entertainment and cooking demonstrations by representatives of the Mercer County Culinary Institute.
The participating eateries are Toscano Ristorante, The Farnsworth House, Under The Moon Cafe, Marcello’s Restaurant, Oliver A Bistro, Beanwood Cafe, Jester’s Cafe and The Heart of Bordentown Tavern. Each restaurant will feature $5 menu items for purchase. Wine and craft beers will be recommended to accompany the various foods sold.
The event will also feature a Jeffrey Gaines concert in the outdoor lounge. He is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist whose hits include “Hero In Me” and an acoustic live version of Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes.”
