Cycling event to benefit inner city teens

Event, Sept. 28, starts and ends in Titusville

TITUSVILLE — UrbanPromise Trenton announces The First Annual Trekkers Ride, a cycling event that will take place on Sept. 28 starting and ending in Titusville.
Funds raised from the event will support UrbanTrekkers, the component of UrbanPromise that provides its teens the opportunity to experience new challenges and develop leadership skills. Through UrbanTrekkers, the teen leaders have been able to travel beyond the city and explore activities such as hiking, climbing, kayaking, and cycling.
Riders can participate in either of two categories. Experienced road riders are invited to tackle the more challenging 40-mile route through the back roads of East Amwell and Hopewell townships. For riders who prefer a shorter ride, there are 13- 20- and 30-mile routes on the canal path along the Delaware River.
Registration for individuals and teams can de done through the “Trekkers Ride” link at www.urbantrekkerstrenton.org, or in person the day of the event. The registration cost of $30 ($35 on the day of the event) includes rest stop refreshments and a buffet luncheon following the ride.
Those wishing to support the event can contribute to a rider or a team through the Trekkers website.
”Sponsoring the teen riders is a great way to show support for the program,” according to Carl Clark, executive director of UrbanPromise Trenton. “We are challenging the riders to meet the goal of raising $10,000 to fund the upcoming year’s Trekeker events.”
UrbanPromise Trenton was founded by Carl Clark, himself a product of UrbanPromise Ministries in Camden.
”I attribute my academic and professional success to the support I received and the leadership skills I learned at UrbanPromise,” said Mr. Clark. After completing college and establishing a banking career, he felt a calling to bring the UrbanPromise program model to the streets of Trenton. Now in its third year, UrbanPromise Trenton operates two free after school programs as well as two five week summer camps, as well as the UrbanTrekkers program.
Urban Trekkers Trenton, headed up by Denny Rogers and Tom Armington, is the experiential learning component of UrbanPromise Trenton that provides the program’s teens with leadership development opportunities by engaging them in experiences beyond those available in the inner city.
