New Jersey Film Festival begins Sept. 6

The Rutgers Film Co-op/New Jersey Media Arts Center, in association with the Cinema Studies program at Rutgers University, will present the 32nd annual New Jersey Film Festival from Sept. 6 to Nov. 15.

More than 29 films will have their New Jersey or Middlesex County premiere screenings, including “Mad Ship,” “Rap ’n’ Reno,” “Killer B3,” Sick Mick and the Boys,” “Life with Alex,” “Foreign Eye in the Storm,” “Locomotive,” “Casual Encounters,” “Agophobia,” “Bebete and Daniboy,” “We Women Warriors” and “From Queens to Cairo.” Classic and rare experimental film screenings will take place on select Thursday evenings. Films include “Dreams That Money Can Buy,” “Cosmic Ray” and others by Sidney Peterson, Bruce Baillie, Shirley Clarke and Hollis Frampton.

Directors, artists, actors and scholars will also be present for question-andanswer sessions with audience members.

All the works that will be screened through Oct. 6 are part of the New Jersey Film Festival competition and were selected by a panel of judges that included media professionals, journalists, students and academics. The finalists were selected from more than 388 works submitted by filmmakers from around the world. Prize winners will be announced after the screenings on Oct. 6.

Jimmy John’s of New Brunswick will provide free sandwiches prior to screenings on Sept. 6, 8, 15, 20, 22, 27, 28 and 29, and Oct. 4 and 6.
