HOWELL — The Howell Women’s Club will host its annual open house and membership tea at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Taunton School, 41 Taunton Drive, Howell.
This year the club will celebrate its 50th year as a community service organization, according to a press release. The event offers an opportunity to meet the members of the club and learn about its activities.
Women from the Howell, Jackson, Lakewood and Freehold areas are invited to attend, bring their friends and relax. Refreshments will be served.
The Howell Women’s Club is a social and charitable organization of local women. Meetings are held monthly. The club’s community and charitable projects are planned and discussed, and short informational programs are presented.
According to the press release, the club has raised an appreciable sum for local charities, especially women’s and children’s causes, including the Maryann Gambino Memorial Scholarship, given to a graduating senior from the Freehold Regional High School District.
Additionally, the Howell Senior Center’s homebound clients of Meals on Wheels are treated to monthly desserts and Thanksgiving dinners prepared by club members and delivered by officers from the Howell Police Department.
The Women’s Club will be collecting items for the American Recreational Military Services (ARMS) program at the open house and membership tea on Sept. 10.
ARMS, which was founded in 2001, has shipped more than one million pounds of necessities to servicemen and servicewomen overseas. Most needed items include small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, suntan lotion, bug spray, mouthwash, batteries, eye drops, lip balm, and other similar personal food and entertainment items. Toothpaste and toothbrushes are not needed at this time. Visit www.supportarms.org for more information about the organization and needed items.
