Long Branch Free Public Library hosts programs in September

Fiesta at Your Library!

Sept. 21, 1-5 p.m., Main Library (rain date Sept. 28)

Attendees can celebrate Latino cultures during National Hispanic Heritage Month, enjoying music, entertainment and free snacks, along with special performances by the Gregory School and Audrey Clark School dancers.

Non-Fiction Book Club

Sept. 12, 1:30 p.m., Main Library

The group will discuss “This Love Is Not for Cowards: Salvation and Soccer in Ciudad Juarez” by Robert Andrew Powell. New members and visitors are always welcome. Those interested can pick up a copy at the circulation desk. Light refreshments will be served. The club meets every third Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Main Library.

Tween Book Club

The following Tween Book Club meetings will be held:

Retro Gaming Day

Sept. 16, 4 p.m., Main Library

Those interested can stop by the Teen Zone for an afternoon of old-school electronic gaming and test their skills at Nintendo and Sega Genesis games.

Family Film Saturdays at the Main Library

Attendees can bring snacks and enjoy a new film on a big screen with surroundsound. Showtime begins promptly at 2 p.m. in the Community Room. Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Library Card Sign-Up Month

A library card is the key to a wealth of resources including books, CDs, DVDs, online resources, downloadable audiobooks, e-books, magazines and much more. Please bring ID with proof of Long Branch address.

Shoes for Fines

The library has joined forces with Shoe- Box Recycling. Those interested can bring old shoes to either branch of the library through Oct. 12, and the shoes will be shipped around the globe to someone who needs them. The library can accept all paired men’s, women’s and children’s shoes that are still usable, including cleats. Not accepted will be ski boots, heavy winter boots, roller skates or blades, single shoes or unusable shoes. For each pair of shoes donated, the donor will receive $2 off a library fine.

The third annual Library Champions Dinner will celebrate members of the community who have gone above and beyond to support the Long Branch Free Public Library. The names of the 2013 champions will be announced shortly. The dinner will be held Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. in West Long Branch. Tickets are $40 and must be purchased by Oct. 3.
