Three Rowan University women’s lacrosse players, including one from South Brunswick, were selected to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Academic Honor
GLASSBORO — Three Rowan University women’s lacrosse players, including one from South Brunswick, were selected to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Academic Honor Roll, according to the school.
The student-athletes chosen were South Brunswick’s Shannon O’Brien, Caitlin Ravel and Colleen Nauss.
The IWLCA honored 382 student-athletes from 94 schools.
To be selected, players must have a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) and have achieved at least junior status academically.
An attack and team captain, O’Brien, a senior from Kendall Park, contributed with six goals and one assist for seven points.
She compiled 131 draw controls, 42 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers.
O’Brien was a member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) All-Conference and IWLCA Boardwalk All-Region first teams.
She was named to the Capital One/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Women’s At-Large Academic All-District II first team and the Philadelphia Inquirer Women’s Lacrosse All-Area Team.
A Rowan Scholar-Athlete, O’Brien received NJAC All-Academic second team honors. Sheis majoring in elementary education and Spanish.
Both attacks, Nauss, a junior from Hilltop, and Marlton senior Ravel, added three and two points respectively.
Nauss earned NJAC All-Academic honorable mention and was included into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society.
She has been a Rowan Scholar-Athlete for three straight years, and is majoring in civilengineering.
Ravel received NJAC All-Academic honorable mention and was a Rowan Scholar-Athlete.
She was a mathematics and secondary education major.
In 2012, Ravel was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College AthleteHonor Society.
The women’s lacrosse team ended the 2013 season with an 11-6 overall recordand a 4-1 conference mark. Rowan received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament.
