National Writing Project schedules fall conference for teachers

The National Writing Project (NWP) at Rider University is inviting teachers to the fall conference, “Launching into Literacy: Supporting Educators in a Time of Change.”

Highlighted by keynote speaker Lisa Funeri Willever, author of the “Nicky Fifth” series, teachers will have the opportunity to participate in a morning of inspiration, collegiality and classroom-ready strategies while earning three professional development hours.

The conference will be held 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 26. It is open to all area kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers and pre-service teachers.

In addition to the keynote address, a choice of two breakout sessions, presented by NWP-trained teacher consultants, will be offered. Participants may choose from “Text Complexity,” “Techno-poetry,” “Using Google Earth,” “Conferencing in the Reading and Writing Workshop,” “Creative Ways to Write Nonfiction” and “Close Writing.”

The conference fee is $30, or $25 for NWP-at-Rider teacher consultants and $5 for undergraduates with ID. Visit www.nwprider.org for a registration brochure and for information about all programs.
