Participants sought for Sept. 21 Garbolino 5K

The annual Janice Garbolino Memorial 5K Walk/Run will begin at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 21 in Roosevelt Park, Edison. Held in memory of Garbolino, the former health and wellness director of the Metuchen branch YMCA who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2002, the 5K is a collaboration between the YMCA and the LIVESTRONG Foundation.

This year, participants may not only walk or run in memory of or in honor of a loved one, they also will be able to raise funds in support of the program. Interested individuals may create a personal fundraising page and set a personal or team fundraising goal by logging on to www.ymcaofmewsa.org and clicking on the link for the Garbolino 5K event.

Registration will be accepted in advance at the YMCA branches in Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge and South Amboy, and online through midnight Sept. 19. Participants also may register 7:30-8:15 a.m. on the morning of the event at Lakeview School in Roosevelt Park, the location of the 5K start and finish. Fee is $25 per person until Sept. 19, $30 on the day of the event.

All proceeds from the walk/run will support LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a free 12- week cancer-survivor and recovery program.
