NAMI:In Our Own Voice

By Yolande Zealy
Come learn about the courageous stories of illness and recovery from two people who have experience serious mental illness. This presentation is offered in observance of Mental Illness Awareness Week, October 6-12, 2013, in collaboration with the Mercer County Library System and NAMI Mercer (National Alliance on Mental Illness of Mercer County).
In Our Own Voice (IOOV) is a unique public education program, developed by NAMI,  National Alliance on Mental Illness, in which two trained speakers who are living with mental illness share compelling personal stories about living with mental illness and achieving recovery.
Each hour-long IOOV presentation follows the journey to recovery through its five major stages: Dark Days; Acceptance; Treatment; Coping Skills; and Successes, Hopes and Dreams. The presenter introduces each stage with a brief video and then relates his or her own personal experience.
In Our Own Voice will be presented at the Hickory Corner Branch of the Mercer County Library System on October 7 at 7 pm. The library is located at 138 Hickory Corner Rd, East.  Registration required.  Call 609 448-1330 or register online at www.mcl.org under Adult Programs.
