PENNINGTON — The 38th annual Watershed FEST, which supports the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed’s efforts to protect clear water and the environment in central New Jersey, will be held under a tent on the 930-acre Watershed Reserve in Hopewell Township on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 6:30 p.m.
The music from the 1960s and early 1970s is the theme of the 2013 Watershed FEST, “Rockin’ in Our Wellies,” and celebrates the music from that era, and the beginning of modern environmentalism.
”The ‘60s and early ‘70s were a period of great social activism,” said Bill Carmean, FEST Committee co-chairman. “Heightened awareness for the environment resulted in the creation of Earth Day in 1970, and the Clean Water Act in 1972.”
The event will commence with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. There will be a sit-down dinner and a silent auction will offer a variety of items and experiences, including a five-night stay at an Irish castle, a four-night stay at a ranch house in Montana with unlimited golf, and a vintage wine package. The evening will conclude with dancing to music from the ‘60s and ‘70s.
The silent auction component of the FEST will be opened up to the public, through online bidding. Members of the community and FEST guests can place early bids on exciting items such as rock and roll memorabilia, jewelry, restaurant packages, wine tastings and more. Raffle tickets will also be available online to win an all-inclusive trip for two to St. Lucia. Online bidding is open now at www.bidpal.net/watershed.
The Watershed Association will soon be breaking ground to construct a new LEED Platinum environmental center on the reserve that will strengthen science and education programs, create new classrooms, laboratories, and interactive exhibits to show visitors how to reduce their energy and water use.
To buy tickets to the Fest and for information about online silent auction bidding, visit the Watershed website at www.thewatershed.org or call the Watershed Association at (609) 737-3735.
