RED BANK — The Community YMCA is expanding the Healthy Kids membership to include pre-kindergarten students.
The healthy-living initiative gives all Red Bank youth free membership and access to family activities at the Family Health and Wellness Center, located at 166 Maple Ave. in Red Bank.
The program provides opportunities for children to stay active and develop healthy habits by spending time at the Y. This marks the fourth year that this no-cost membership has been offered to all Red Bank schoolchildren up to eighth grade.
Last year, more than 250 children from grades K-eight participated in the program, which includes open-family gym and pool times, family dinners, movie nights, special blocks of activities and supervised recreation. There are also a variety of classes in which parents can enroll their children at a special member fee.
To sign up for this membership, Red Bank families may stop by the Y anytime with a copy of their child’s report card, progress report or placement letter. Parents must also bring their license or a bill to serve as proof of address.
The Healthy Kids membership is one of many community initiatives the Y provides to help prevent childhood obesity and encourage families and children to make healthy lifestyle choices. The free youth membership is made possible by the generosity of area donors.
