Audubon Society bird banding station tour

The Monmouth County Audubon Society will tour a bird banding station Nov. 9 at the Sandy Hook unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area, Highlands. The group will meet 8 a.m. at parking lot K.

Bird banding can be used to study the relative health of migratory bird populations, which are attracted to the peninsula of Sandy Hook due to the abundance of food and areas of suitable habitat.

The tour is free and open to both members and nonmembers of the Monmouth County Audubon Society. Participants should bring binoculars and dress appropriately for the weather. Pets are not permitted.

The Monmouth County Audubon Society, a chapter of the National Audubon Society, holds meetings the second Wednesday of each month, September through May, at the Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Road, Fair Haven.
