MANVILLE: Ladies Auxiliary to hold election-day bake sale

They’ll be outside the polls

Election Day is coming up on Tuesday. Voters at the VFW polling site on Washington Avenue can not only do their civic duty but can help out the local fire company, too.
During the voting hours of 6 a.m.-8 p.m. the Ladies Auxiliary of Camplain Road Firehouse No. 2 will conduct a bake sale outside under a tent. The ladies will stay as long as they have items for sale.
”The first year we sold out at 1:30 and last year we stayed until 7 p.m.,” said Nancy Otrimski.
Ms. Otrimski said the auxiliary tries not to do a lot of fundraisers but, like everyone else, the fire department needs to upgrade their equipment and do work around the firehouse on North 13th Avenue.
”We probably have thousands and thousands of dollars in the upkeep not even to replace. We need tables, chairs and just a whole bunch of equipment replacement. This is our only way of getting it we don’t have that many members,” said Ms. Otrimski.
Monetary donations will be gratefully appreciated and Ms. Otrimski said all the members will be baking because they want to sell the items. “Stop by on your way home from work to pick up dessert and vote,” Ms. Otrimski said.
Everything will be $1, with all the proceeds going to help the firefighters. You can get a brownie, a couple of cookies, cupcake or slice of cake in a bag. Patrons can choose what kind of sweets they want. Hot chocolate will be sold.
According to Ms. Otrimski the Ladies Auxiliary No. 2 is looking for new members. They have five meetings a year and want to do more fundraisers to help get more things for the firemen. The auxiliary periodically loses and gains members, but some of the current members are up in age and Ms. Otrimski would like to get more residents involved.
If interested in joining, stop by and see any of the ladies at the tent or stop at the firehouse.
